WATER QUALITY IN LAKE LOWELL, IDAHO

Description:

Water quality in Lake Lowell (17050114) is suitable for irrigation; recreational use is limited by dense summer algal blooms. Dissolved oxygen concentrations and fecal coliform bacteria counts occasionally exceed Idaho Water Quality Standards for primary contact recreation waters. The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation personnel initiated water quality studies at 5 sites in Lake Lowell during 1975. Water quality sampling was conducted in the New York and Deer Flat Low Line Canals (major inflow and outflow) over a longer period. In general, the quality of New York Canal inflows to Lake Lowell reflect the intensive agricultural development of the Boise Valley. U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, Pacific Northwest Region, Boise, ID. March 1979. 26 pp plus appendices.
